Connecting with Facebook links your Instagram account to {{brand.name}} through the Facebook Page it belongs to. In the panel the button reads , and once connected the account's connection card says . The one real advantage of this path is bulk work: a single sign-in shows you several Instagram accounts at once.
Connect with Facebook
Via Facebook Page
⚠️ This path works only with Instagram business accounts that are linked to a Facebook Page. If the Facebook user you sign in with doesn't manage the Page, or the Page has no linked Instagram account, the panel says "No Instagram business account was found on the selected Pages" and nothing is connected.
What this path gives you
Several accounts in one sign-in. Every Page your Facebook user manages is scanned, the Instagram accounts linked to those Pages are listed on a selection screen, and you tick the ones you want and connect them in one go. Each account you pick is added to your portfolio as its own account.
The same messaging capabilities. Receiving and answering DMs, comment replies and private replies, story replies, publishing posts, reading insights — everything the Instagram login path does, this path does too.
An m.me link. The chat link is built from your username on ig.me; because the Page ID is known, the m.me address also works.
How it works
When you come back from Facebook's permission screen, {{brand.name}} reads the list of Pages your Facebook user manages and extracts the Instagram account linked to each one. Even if the same Instagram account appears on several Pages, it is listed once.
The next step is the selection screen: candidates are listed with their profile picture, name, username and the name of the Page they belong to. The selection is valid for 15 minutes; if you don't finish in time the screen says "The selection expired or is invalid" and you start over. Details: Choosing several Instagram accounts.
From then on every request runs with the Page's token. That is why the Page is inseparable from the connection: a record without a Page is never written.
The two real drawbacks
Know them before you choose; both come from Meta's side.
The token does not renew itself
A Page token has no expiry date, so you won't see a "renews automatically" line on the connection card either. But Meta's data access permission is separate and it does expire. When the remaining time can be read, the card shows:
Permission time left: N days
14 days before expiry the account switches to the Renewal due badge, and the portfolio's owner and admins receive an email plus an in-app notification 14 and 3 days before. If the time runs out, the account drops to Needs reconnecting: messages don't arrive and automations don't run. The fix is easy (sign in again with the same Facebook account) but it is manual.
Nobody can message you until the app is approved
This path runs on the Facebook app's permissions, and Meta grants approval per app. Until the app is approved, Meta only delivers messages from people who have a role on that app; your ordinary customers write to you, the message shows up on Instagram, but it never reaches {{brand.name}}. This is a restriction on Meta's side, not in {{brand.name}}, and it applies to every tool built on their platform.
⚠️ Note: This has actually happened in production. After an account was switched to the Facebook path, no messages arrived from anyone except a single person, and it took days to work out why. Read Changing the connection path before you switch.
When to choose this path
You have several Instagram accounts and want to connect them all in one sign-in.
You already manage your accounts through Facebook Pages and have access to them.
You know the permissions are approved on the Facebook side.
If you are connecting a single account and don't want maintenance work, Instagram login is the easier path.
A concrete example
Picture a hair salon chain with three branches: each branch has its own Instagram account and its own Facebook Page, and you manage them all with the same Facebook user. When you press Connect with Facebook, you select all three Pages on the permission screen, come back to see all three Instagram accounts together, and tick all three. Three separate accounts open in your portfolio, each with its own inbox, its own automations and its own team access. Doing the same with Instagram login would mean three separate sign-ins.
Limits and things to know
A Page is mandatory. Every request on this connection goes through the Page; a candidate whose Page can't be read is never saved.
All or nothing. When you confirm several accounts on the selection screen, the operation runs as a whole: if one of them breaks a rule, none of them is connected.
New accounts must fit the portfolio's free slots. If the account allowance is full, you can only reconnect that portfolio's broken accounts; reconnections don't use a slot.
The read-receipt field is named differently on this path. This detail doesn't concern you, but it shows that the two paths really are different interfaces on Meta's side — a setting that works on one is not necessarily identical on the other.
An Instagram account is connected in one place only. On the selection screen, candidates connected elsewhere carry a badge and cannot be picked.
