The post's hour arrived, nothing appeared on Instagram, and the card still reads Scheduled or Uploading. Most of these situations are not errors: the panel has not dropped the job, it is waiting for a reason. The steps below tell you which wait you are in and whether you need to step in.
💡 If the card shows Error, the right place is not this article but . That guide lists every error note and its fix. This article covers items that are .
The card reads Scheduled and carries a permission note.
The card reads Scheduled, its hour has passed, and there is no note or a different note.
The card is waiting in Uploading.
No card was created at all and the item stayed in Drafts.
An item with a permission note
If the card carries this text, the item is waiting for permission: "Instagram publishing permission (instagram_content_publish) has not been approved yet. Your posts stay in the queue and go out on their own the day the permission arrives."
This is not a fault. Publishing to Instagram from the panel requires a permission from Meta, and that permission is granted after an application review (App Review). The review can take weeks.
What to do:
Do nothing. Do not delete the item and do not press Try again.
Keep scheduling new posts; they all accumulate in the queue.
The day the permission arrives, the waiting items publish on their own.
In this situation the panel retries every 6 hours; retrying every minute would achieve nothing, because the permission depends on Meta's review calendar. The attempt counter does not grow on these tries either, so your item never drops into the error state.
There is no note, or a note other than the permission one. There are three possibilities.
1. The daily allowance is full. The note under the card says the daily allowance has been used. The panel defers the item by an hour and publishes it when allowance frees up. Confirm the counter from the Remaining line above the list; details in The daily posting allowance.
2. A temporary error occurred and the item is in a waiting period. Instagram being unreachable, or Instagram receiving too many requests, are temporary errors. The panel retries these items by itself and extends the wait with each attempt: 1, 5, 15, 30 and 60 minutes. After the eighth attempt the item drops to Error and waits for you. A delay of a few minutes is therefore normal; the item is expected to get going within half an hour.
3. The account's connection is not working or the section is turned off. The note under the card says the account's connection is not usable or that publishing is turned off. The panel retries hourly, but nothing publishes until the cause is removed.
Order of checks:
Look at the Remaining line above the list; if it is zero, waiting is enough.
Read the note under the card; the note names the cause directly.
Check the account connection: look at your Instagram account's status on the Settings → Connect account screen. If it is broken, follow The account needs reconnecting.
Check whether the section is turned off: publishing may be disabled for the portfolio.
An item waiting in Uploading
Uploading means the file has reached Instagram and Instagram is preparing the content. For videos and Reels that preparation takes a few minutes; the panel re-checks the state each round and publishes once it is ready.
A wait of a few minutes is normal. If it exceeds an hour, check the following:
Refresh the page; the panel may have updated the state in the background.
Look at your profile in the Instagram app. If the post is there, publishing did happen and the panel will mark it Published on the next round.
If the post is not on Instagram either, open the item with Edit and save it: saving clears the upload record and the item runs again from a clean attempt.
⚠️ Note: Pressing Cancel while an item is Uploading makes the panel re-read the status before sending the publish request, and the job genuinely stops. But if the file has reached Instagram and the publish request has gone out, the post may be live. A published post cannot be taken back from the panel.
No card was created and the item stayed in Drafts
If Schedule or Publish now was never pressed on the editing screen, the item never enters the queue; it is only saved as a draft. The most common cause is this: a validation warning appeared on the last step and the page was left before the warning was read.
Open the Queue → Drafts tab.
Find the record and press Edit.
Reach the Time step, pick Schedule and set an hour.
Press Schedule. If a warning appears, fix every item on the list and press again.
If the problem persists
If none of the three situations above fits, move to a firmer route:
Open the item with Edit and press Schedule without changing anything. Saving clears the old error record, the upload record and the attempt counter.
If that does not help, change the file: export the same content again, smaller and at the right ratio, and upload it.
Disconnect and reconnect the account. That refreshes the access permissions; see The connection broke.
Prepare the same content as a new post and try that, then delete the old record.
Other known issues and limits
Publishing jobs run in per-minute rounds. A round takes at most 10 items and each round has a time budget; if you schedule a hundred items for the same minute they will not all go out in the same second but publish in order across several rounds.
An item is never published twice. The panel locks the item before taking it; even if the publish request breaks, the next round reuses the same upload record instead of opening a new one.
Instagram's upload record dies after 24 hours. Because the panel opens the record at the scheduled time, this does not normally affect you, but on an item stuck in Uploading for very long the record may have expired; the item then drops to Error with a note saying the file could not be processed.
Stories do not count towards the daily cap, so stories never wait even when the allowance is full.
The panel does not change or delete a post on Instagram, which is why correcting a post that went out wrong is done in the Instagram app.
