A trial is a stretch of time in which you use a paid plan without giving a card and without paying. Throughout it your status shows a Trial badge, and the day it ends is written on the Trial ends row.
💡 No payment details are asked for during the trial. A card only comes into play if you decide to buy a plan and the method you pick needs one.
How your trial starts
You never press a "start trial" button. Your subscription opens the moment you create your first own portfolio, and if you still have a trial allowance it starts on the trial plan. If trials are switched off, or you have already used yours, you start on the free plan at the same moment.
How many days you get is a setting on the trial plan itself; the panel does not show it as a day count but as the Trial ends date. The top bar also shows "N days left in your trial." with a Choose a plan button beside it.
If you are only a team member on someone else's portfolio, no subscription of your own opens, so no trial starts either: that portfolio uses its owner's plan. The day you create your own portfolio, the trial begins — if your allowance is still unused.
What is unlocked during a trial
A trial is a real paid plan, not a stripped-down copy. Every limit and every feature of that plan applies during the trial: you connect the same number of accounts, build the same steps and spend the same monthly AI credits.
Nothing you build during the trial is a "trial record". The accounts you connect, the contacts, the automations and the conversations are real data, and they are not deleted when the trial ends.
Only one thing is different: because there is no paid period yet, the Billing period, Current period and Next payment rows do not appear on the Plan tab. Only the Trial ends date stands in their place. In the Plans block every paid plan's button reads Buy, too: with no paid period, no switch counts as an upgrade or a downgrade.
AI credits during the trial
The trial plan's monthly AI credits work during the trial and are spent under the same rules. Your monthly window starts from the day your trial subscription was opened.
If you buy a plan before the trial ends, the credit accounting starts clean: the paid plan's credits begin from the moment of payment, and credits you spent during the trial are not deducted from your new plan. Because the remaining trial days are added to your first period, the monthly credit window is set from that new start as well.
If credits run out during the trial you can buy an extra credit pack; whether packs are available depends on the plan's own settings. Extra credits never expire, so they are still in hand when the trial ends and you buy a plan.
How you learn the trial is ending
You hear about it from three places:
The top bar — it counts the days left and changes to "Your trial has ended." when it does.
Email — a "trial ending" message a few days before and again on the last day, then a "trial ended" message when it finishes.
The Plan tab — the badge on the Status row and the Trial ends date.
Those emails go to the address in your billing details, or to your account email if you have not filled those in yet.
If you buy before the trial ends
The days you have left are not burned. On the Plan tab you will see the note "If you buy before your trial ends, the remaining trial days are added to your first period.", and the What happens next? block on the checkout screen adds the line "Your remaining N trial days were added to the first period."
In practice: if 6 trial days remain and you buy a monthly plan, your first period runs 1 month plus 6 days. The period end date and every renewal date after it are calculated from that new start.
⚠️ Note: Those extra days are only added with payment methods where {{brand.name}} runs the renewal itself. With a method that sets up the provider's own subscription product (the one whose description reads "The subscription is set up with the payment provider" when you pick a method), the remaining trial days are not added and a discount code applies to the first payment only. If you have many days left, one of the other methods is the better deal.
A plan bought during a trial starts immediately; you do not wait for a period to roll over.
What happens when the trial ends
When the last trial day passes and you have not bought a plan, your subscription moves to the free plan. That means:
The free plan's limits apply. Your quotas drop.
Features the free plan does not cover are locked. An automation run that reaches an uncovered step stops at that step; your automation is not deleted.
Your monthly AI credits drop to the free plan's value.
Your data is not deleted. Accounts, contacts, tags, automations and every conversation stay where they are.
Buy a plan later and everything that was locked opens again exactly as it was; nothing needs rebuilding.
You cannot take a second trial
The trial allowance is once per person. The record of having used it is kept on your user account, so deleting a portfolio and creating a new one, cancelling the subscription or opening a second portfolio does not start a new trial. Your second portfolio is covered by the same plan.
Opening a second user account to get another trial is also a bad idea: because portfolios and accounts are tied to a user, your team, contact list and conversations do not move between two accounts.
To get real value out of the trial, connect one account and publish one automation on the first day; you can watch the rest from the inbox.
