Deleting an account is not the same as disconnecting it: when you disconnect, your contacts and conversations stay in the panel; when you delete, all of it goes. The Delete this account screen does that, but first it shows exactly what will be removed and asks for confirmation twice. This guide covers the whole screen and everything worth thinking about beforehand.
⚠️ Deletion is immediate and permanent. There is no grace period, no undo, no trash. Only the portfolio owner sees this screen, and your user account needs two-step verification or a passkey enabled.
Deleting removes the account and everything belonging to it from the database. The situations that call for it are limited:
If none of those is your situation, there are two alternatives and the screen reminds you of both: disconnecting (data stays) or moving the account into another portfolio of yours.
The Delete button on a row of Portfolio settings › Accounts leads here too.
⚠️ If the portfolio is scheduled for deletion, this screen does not open; the panel sends you to the portfolio's lock screen. In a locked portfolio the only way to save an account is to move it.
The first box on the screen is the warning: "This account's contacts, conversations, automations, media and all its other data are deleted permanently. This cannot be undone."
The list underneath shows the counts: Contacts, Conversations, Automations, Media files, Saved replies, Segments, Global rules, Sequences. These are the same figures as on the move screen — what travels there is what is destroyed here.
Reading those numbers matters. If a screen you opened thinking "it was empty anyway" shows 400 contacts and 1,200 conversations, you have a reason to stop and think.
If the account has a live Instagram or WhatsApp connection, the screen says so: "It will be disconnected first: …" followed by the channel's name.
You don't have to do that yourself; the system disconnects it as part of the deletion. The notice is there to state the consequence: once deletion completes, that Instagram account or WhatsApp number is no longer connected to the panel and no messages will arrive.
If the account you are deleting is the last one in the portfolio, the screen adds a note: "This is the portfolio's last account. Once deleted the portfolio stays empty; you can connect a new account whenever you like."
So deleting the last account does not delete the portfolio. The portfolio remains, along with its team, your plan and your invoices; it simply becomes empty. To remove the portfolio too, see Deleting a portfolio.
The screen also spells out what stays: "Your portfolio, team, plan and invoices don't change; activity logs and the AI usage record are kept."
Broken out:
Next to the delete box the screen keeps a reminder: "If you don't want to lose the data, you can move the account to another portfolio of yours." A link to the move screen sits beside it.
That link only appears if you have move permission (that is, you are the portfolio owner). If you are not certain, consider moving first: a move can be reversed, a deletion cannot.
Deletion asks for confirmation in two layers.
First layer — typing the name. The screen asks you to type the account's name exactly, and shows the required text under the field. This makes deleting the wrong account nearly impossible: even if you try to delete an account that happened to be open in another tab, typing the name by hand stops you.
Second layer — identity verification. Depending on the method enabled on your user account:
Press the button and the panel asks one last time: "Delete the account and all its data permanently? This cannot be undone." Confirm and it happens immediately.
⚠️ With no security method enabled, the screen does not allow deletion and sends you to the Security screen. Deletion is also unavailable while our support team is viewing the panel as you — a safeguard against data being destroyed by accident during support.
Because deletion can't be undone, a few minutes are worth spending:
Mistaking deletion for disconnecting. Disconnecting preserves the data; deleting does not. To cut only the Instagram bond, use the Disconnect button on the Connection screen.
Deleting for allowance when moving would have done. The account allowance is per portfolio. If you hit the limit, moving the account to another portfolio frees it up too.
Assuming the portfolio goes when the last account does. It doesn't; it stays empty.
Assuming the plan is cancelled. It isn't; the plan belongs to your user account.
Typing an approximate name in the confirmation field. The field wants an exact match, including case and punctuation.
Deleting without exporting contacts. For most businesses the customer list is the most valuable data there is, and it cannot be recovered.
To keep the account instead, see Moving an account to another portfolio. To cut only the Instagram or WhatsApp bond see Disconnecting and deleting data, and to remove the whole portfolio see Deleting a portfolio.
