Deleting a portfolio means removing every account and all the data inside it at once, so the panel does not do it immediately. Deletion is scheduled: the portfolio locks straight away, a grace period passes, and on that day everything is permanently deleted. Until then you can change your mind. This guide covers the screen, the grace period, what happens in a locked portfolio, and how to cancel.
⚠️ Only the portfolio owner can open this screen, and your user account needs two-step verification or a passkey enabled. Admins, editors, agents and viewers never see this item in the menu.
Deleting a portfolio removes the box that holds your accounts and your team. That is a different job from deleting an account: deleting an account clears one Instagram account or WhatsApp number, deleting a portfolio clears all of them.
Situations that call for it:
The description under the page title sums up the mechanics: "The portfolio locks immediately and is permanently deleted with all its accounts after n days. You can reopen it until then."
The number of days comes from a platform setting and is printed on the screen. The point of the grace period is to leave you a way back from a decision made by accident or in anger.
During the period:
If the portfolio has accounts with live connections, the screen won't perform the deletion. It shows a list with a heading telling you what to do: "Before deleting, disconnect these accounts, or move them to another portfolio, or delete them:"
Each row in the list carries the account's name and three links:
You have to do one of the three. That step is a deliberate barrier: an Instagram or WhatsApp connection rests on a permission on Meta's side, and the panel will not destroy a portfolio without cutting that bond properly.
Accounts without a live connection don't appear in this list; they are already disconnected. The screen also lists connections that will be cut automatically during deletion: "These accounts will also be disconnected: …"
If the portfolio has contacts, the screen shows a warning: "All data, including contacts and conversations, will be deleted permanently."
If you don't see that warning, the portfolio has no contacts. If you do, consider exporting your contacts as CSV before deleting.
The screen carries an important note: "Deleting the portfolio does not cancel your plan; your plan and invoices stay on your user account." A link to the Plan and invoices screen sits next to it.
This corrects the most common wrong assumption. The plan belongs to your user account, not to a portfolio. Even if you delete every portfolio you have, your subscription continues and keeps renewing. To stop paying you must cancel the plan separately; see Plan and invoices.
Deletion asks for confirmation in two layers, the same arrangement as deleting an account.
First layer — typing the name. The screen asks you to type the portfolio's name exactly, and shows the required text under the field. If the portfolio has no name, you are asked to type the word DELETE instead.
Second layer — identity verification. Depending on the method enabled on your user account:
Press the button and the panel asks one last time: "Lock the portfolio and delete it after n days?" Confirm and the portfolio locks immediately and takes you to the lock screen.
⚠️ With no security method enabled, the screen does not allow deletion and sends you to the Security screen. Deletion is also unavailable while our support team is viewing the panel as you.
Once the portfolio is locked, all its pages redirect to a lock screen titled Portfolio will be deleted. It holds:
An amber warning. "This portfolio will be permanently deleted with all its accounts and data on date and time." The exact moment is printed; you don't have to guess.
Reactivation. If you are the portfolio owner you see a button. Its note says: "If you cancel, the portfolio opens immediately; you will have to reconnect its accounts." Press it and the panel asks for confirmation: "Cancel the deletion and reopen the portfolio?"
The second half of that note matters: cancelling saves the portfolio but does not bring the connections back. You have to reconnect the Instagram or WhatsApp connections you cut while scheduling the deletion. Your contacts, conversations and automations stay where they were.
If you are not the owner you see a note instead of the button: "Only the portfolio owner can cancel the deletion."
Moving accounts. The lock screen lists the portfolio's accounts, each with a Move button. Its note: "You can save this account by moving it, with all its data, to another portfolio of yours." If you have no other portfolio to move to, a New portfolio link is there too.
Other accounts. A section for switching to accounts in your other portfolios: "You can switch to another account or create a new portfolio."
The portfolio's team is affected by the lock too: members cannot enter the portfolio's pages and see the lock screen. Pending invitations cannot be accepted ("This portfolio is due for deletion; the invitation cannot be accepted right now.").
When you cancel, the team returns with the same roles; you don't have to re-invite anyone.
Assuming deleting a portfolio cancels the plan. It doesn't. The plan belongs to your user account and has to be cancelled separately.
Looking for the "Delete" button while trying to rescue an account in a locked portfolio. Deletion is closed while locked; the rescue route is Move.
Assuming connections come back when you cancel. You have to reconnect them.
Ignoring accounts with live connections and trying to delete anyway. The screen states the barrier plainly and offers three ways out.
Deleting without exporting contacts. The grace period is an opportunity; download your list before the day arrives.
Deleting the portfolio when you meant to delete one account. To remove a single account use the Deleting an account screen.
To remove a single account see Deleting an account, to rescue accounts see Moving an account to another portfolio, to cancel the plan see Plan and invoices, and to close your user account entirely see Deleting my user account.
